The official inauguration of the stupa and the finishing ceremonies, August 2010
On Sunday, August 29, we held the last part of the inauguration of the stupa in Skrubba. The program began with Trudy, current chairwoman of SBS, lighting candles and incense in front of the Buddha statue. She then gave a keynote speech in which she described the purpose and history behind the stupa, and thanked everyone who participated in it´s creation process.
After that, Per Unckel, County Governor of Stockholm County, held a sensitive and appropriate speech. Participants from various Buddhist traditions were reading or reciting texts and the ritual part ended with recitation of the Om mani padme hum mantra of the Bodhisattva of compassion, Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezig in Tibetan) and circumambulation around the stupa. Then there was coffee (which the Thai group had prepared) and mingle. Here are some pictures from the official opening of the stupa.
